Until May 10, 2024, works and projects of Latin American architecture are on display

The IILA-International Italian-Latin American Organization presents from 19 March to 10 May 2024 at Palazzo Pamphilj, Galleria Candido Portinari, kindly granted by the Embassy of Brazil in Italy and the Instituto Guimarães Rosa , an immersive and interactive exhibition, curated by the Italian-Panamanian architect Paola Pisanelli Nero, which highlights the sustainable contribution of contemporary architecture in Latin America which maintains, experiments and uses natural materials, revealing a history and an ancestral technical culture that is still alive.
The exhibition “América Latina, vivendo na contemporaneidade. Visões de arquitetura sustentável/ vivir en la contemporaneidad. Visiones de arquitectura sostenible”, is the result of research, which includes more than 90 projects and built works, with the participation of 45 Latin American studios, carried out with the contribution of the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation (DGCS/MAECI) and of the CAF – Development Bank of Latin America and the Caribbean .
THE IILA FOR SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT
As Antonella Cavallari, IILA General Secretary, underlines «The question of the sustainability of our way of living and producing is now crucial and unavoidable: we must adapt our models to make them compatible with respect for planet earth and each of us, in every sector of activities, must and can contribute to the fastest possible completion of the transition towards sustainable development. In this context, the IILA, the Italian-Latin American International Organization, has been orienting its initiatives for years, not only those in the economic field and the promotion of scientific research, but also in the cultural sector, aware of the need to support the process also through a change of mentality. […] And architecture is undoubtedly a form of art and culture, even more relevant in a context like the Latin American one, where over 80% of the population lives in cities. What makes a city sustainable, what are the solutions that architecture can propose? Giving a possible answer to these unavoidable questions is the objective of the exhibition “Latin America, living in the contemporary world. Visions of sustainable architecture".
THE STRUCTURE OF THE EXHIBITION
The exhibition is made up of 3 sections and includes the participation of architects currently professionally active in Latin America.
The “Immersive Section” is made up of 2 rooms that make up the virtual journey through Latin American images and sounds. The visit itinerary begins in ROOM 1 with Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Ecuador, El Salvador and moves on in ROOM 2 to Guatemala, Mexico, Nicaragua, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, Uruguay and Venezuela. In both rooms a road map projected on the ground leads the visitor between the individual territories and their architecture.
The journey continues in the "Consultation Section", located in ROOM 2, which allows the visitor, through touch screen stations, to delve deeper into the projects and learn about the other works of the participating architects.
We continue in the "Interview Section": returning to ROOM 1 and selecting countries and participants from the touch screens, the visitor will be able to see and listen to the architects and their sustainable thinking told through the works on display.
